Karl brings to StrategyCorp the kind of experience, capabilities and network that can only come from more than a decade at the highest levels of government and politics.
He served in the Office of the Prime Minister as Deputy Chief of Staff with responsibility for Cabinet operations and legislation, a key public policy role. He also worked as Senior Tax Policy Advisor to the Minister of Finance, and as Executive Assistant to the Secretary of State for Financial Institutions.
Karl was integrally involved with the entire run of domestic issues before Cabinet. As well, he focused tightly on major revisions to the Income Tax Act, the Bank Act and other tax and financial sector statutes. Karl has worked very closely and successfully on top-level initiatives with many of Ottawa's most senior civil servants.
Karl's political activity includes serving as National Campaign Director for the Liberal Party of Canada in the 2005/6 outing. In the 2004 effort, he served as Ontario Campaign Chair. Karl has also participated extensively in platform development and has worked in campaign war rooms at both the provincial and federal level throughout the 1990s.
Internationally, Karl was the chief government driver behind Canada Corps' 2004/5 mission to monitor Ukraine's historic re-vote during that country's "Orange Revolution". In 2006, Karl did two assignments in Iraq, working for the Washington-based National Democratic Institute for International Affairs. In this capacity, he advised the Iraqi parliament's Finance Committee, and the Ministries of Oil, Justice, Planning and Communications.
After obtaining a B.A. in Political Science and History from the University of Toronto, Karl earned an LL.B. from Dalhousie University. He has been a member of the Ontario Bar since 1993.
